short and rising on middle stump, and van der Dussen rocks back to hammer a pull through midiwcket and seal a five-wicket win
South Africa vs Pakistan, 2nd ODI at Durban, PAK in SA, Jan 22 2019 - Match Result
South Africa won by 5 wickets (with 48 balls remaining)
Sarfaraz and Hasan Ali's 90-run partnership is PAK's highest for the 9th wicket in ODIs, breaking the record of 73 between Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Sami
What a start to one-day international cricket van der Dussen has had - 93 on debut, and now a match-winning 80* as South Africa win by five wickets. And he couldn't have done it without Andile Phehlukwayo's career best 69 not out. Given his efforts with the ball earlier, he's a good shout for Player of the Match. Together they put on 127 - which is a record for the sixth wicket at this ground, and not too far off South Africa's best ever. It was enough to overcome Pakistan, despite the early strikes from Afridi and Shadab, and despite the fight shown with the bat by Hasan Ali and Sarfraz Ahmed earlier.
"We didn't get a good start, and we gave away too many soft wickets. Hasan Ali batted really well and put some hope into the team. We had a chance when we had them 80 for 5, but Phehlukwayo and the other batsman batted really well," says Sarfraz Ahmed.
"I've got a role to play," says Man of the Match Andile Phehlukwayo. "If you hit the deck hard, there was a bit in there. I was a bit nervous to begin with when I batted. Rassie did a good job of calming me down. I stuck to my plans and played with intensity. There was some good chat. Shadab was one of the hardest to pick. At the end of the day, it was good cricket. I'm a positive person, I really like scoring boundaries and making runs."
"What you're looking for in a situation like that from two young guys is to learn a lot," says winning captain Faf du Plessis. "To get through an innings like that will give them a lot. Andile is playing for that no. 7 slot so this was a big innings. In a perfect world, we should have chased 140 or 150, so it was a bit too many. An amazing start to his international career for Rassie. What you look for in new players is composure and calmness at the crease. Tonight was a bit like playing in the subcontinent, hopefully we'll get a bit of pace in the next pitch. Dale will be back, and so will Quinny. But the great thing about this game was two guys taking their opportunity."
Mamunur Akand: "Where does this stand in top 6th wicket partnerships that finished a chase?" -- It's the second highest ever for SA, and it's 12th on this list
And that's all from your commentary team tonight. Join us again on Friday for the third ODI, which is another day/night affair at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Until then, goodbye!
Naveed: "Both teams had nervy moments- Pakistan at 112/8, while SA at 80/5. Both fought back from these low points but SA also had 2 new batters at crease. Credit to them, against a good bowling attack, they won with comfort at the end. So series is tied, making it more interesting. "
Zaheer Ahmed: "Faheem/Talat to be dropped for Amir/Imad in next for sure. It's smelling Dears"
short outside off, and van der Dussen guides to point
Faisal Jaan: "There's no harm in an honorable defeat like this. Pakistan put up a nice fight after they were down to 110/8, and created a match out of nothing. However, oftentimes in recent history, Pakistani team had capitulated too fleetingly without any fight like in recent Pak-NZ test matches or in Asia cup. That's the area for improvement for Pakistan. "
another slower ball from Talat, and Phehlukwayo plays over the top of it but finds a single off his boot. They're level
Sarvan2020: "Andile is really good and doing a good job , I am big fan of pretorius who is also big talent who can bat and bowl but did not get much of a chance lately ,would have been better if was in the team ahead of Paterson "

offcutter from Talat, and Phehlukwayo makes a little room to angle the ball down to third man
Sulaiman: "Smelly guy is finally taking a bath. No more Smelling."
wobbling away, on a length at 130km/h, and Rassie eases one more through cover. Almost there
Naveed: "How important were those last 5 overs that Pakistan did not bat. Even 25 more runs at this stage and greater chase pressure might have worked in Pakistan''s favour. "
whipped off the pads by Phehlukwayo, an easy single through midwicket the result
A complementary pair of innings have just about seen South Africa home. Van der Dussen has absorbed pressure and looked very calm, while Phehlukwayo has ridden his luck and reversed the pressure with attacking strokes
short and wide, and spinning further, but van der Dussen's cut goes straight to point
pushed through a little flatter outside of, van der Dussen waiting in the crease to push it back to the bowler
Phehlukwayo shimmies out to meet the ball on the full, pushing a single along the ground to long on
looped up outside off, and Rassie is well forward to smother it, easing a single through mid off
another reverse sweep from Phehlukwayo, and he collects a single with it
Phehlukwayo swings hard and sends the ball spiraling way up into the rainy night sky. It's up there for an absolute age, and Afridi was under real pressure running back from mid on. He doesn't get close
Last roll of the dice, here's Shadab
James: "Rassie currently averaging 167. Useful!"
swiped, on the up and in front of point, for a single that allows Phehlukwayo to retain the strike
Sallu: "@Liam Brickhill Hussain Talat is bowling spin or fast...?" Medium pace
just short of a good length once again, and it's cracked to point
short again, but Phehlukwayo jumps out and pumps the ball high over mid on. The ball plugs in the outfield
Talat pulls his length back and Phehlukwayo has to stand tall to work the ball to fine leg
having had a look, Phehlukwayo steps down the track and flat-bats the ball powerfully over mid off. The man was up, so the shot was on
Shoaib: "Pakistan need kuldeep yadav here"
he starts with a length delivery on off stump, bowled at 125km/h, that Phehlukwayo taps to point
And here, finally, is Hussain Talat, bowling for the first time tonight, on debut
Afridi ends the over with a length delivery, angling in from outside off, that is calmly blocked by van der Dussen
